What is a natural cosmetic?

A natural cosmetic is defined by law as being composed of at least 95% of ingredients of natural origin. Natural cosmetics do not need to be certified by a label, it is their composition that is authentic. Forêt Bleue cosmetics all contain between 95 and 99.8% of ingredients of natural origin.

Why do we like natural?

Ecology

Conventional cosmetics often contain a high percentage of non-biodegradable synthetic ingredients or generate significant pollution during their production. The choice of naturalness allows us to favour biodegradable compositions, which is the case of Forêt Bleue products. We also favour raw materials obtained using green chemistry techniques because their production is much more ecological.

Health

The choice of natural products makes it possible to avoid many controversial ingredients suspected of being carcinogenic, endocrine disruptors, allergenic or irritating. It is often difficult to take a position on the real danger of these controversial ingredients because scientific studies sometimes come to contradictory conclusions and absolute scientific consensus is rare. Many ingredients are officially considered safe and therefore authorised for many years before studies show the contrary. At Forêt Bleue, we have decided to apply a precautionary principle and prefer to avoid these components.

Efficiency

Natural tends to favour active ingredients such as plant extracts with real long-term properties, whereas conventional cosmetics sometimes prioritise the immediate, often illusory "wow" effect. In addition, advances in green chemistry now allow the use of ecological extraction techniques that preserve the quality of the active ingredients, such as supercritical CO2 extraction. They also make it possible to manufacture highly effective active ingredients by recovering food industry waste, such as the long-lasting ultra-moisturising active ingredient in our face mask, which comes from the recovery of chicory waste.
